In the desert of Arabia was Mohammad born, according to Muslim historians, on April 20, 571. The name means highly praised. He is to me the greatest mind among all the sons of Arabia. He means so much more than all the poets and kings that preceded him in that impenetrable desert of red sand.

When he appeared Arabia was a desert -- a nothing. Out of nothing a new world was fashioned by the mighty spirit of Mohammad -- a new life, a new culture, a new civilization, a new kingdom which extended from Morocco to Indies and influenced the thought and life of three continents -- Asia, Africa and Europe.

When I thought of writing on Mohammad the prophet, I was a bit hesitant because it was to write about a religion I do not profess and it is a delicate matter to do so for there are many persons professing various religions and belonging to diverse school of thought and denominations even in same religion. Though it is sometimes, claimed that religion is entirely personal yet it can not be gain-said that it has a tendency to envelop the whole universe seen as well unseen. It somehow permeates something or other our hearts, our souls, our minds their conscious as well as subconscious and unconscious levels too. The problem assumes overwhelming importance when there is a deep conviction that our past, present and future all hang by the soft delicate, tender silk cord. If we further happen to be highly sensitive, the center of gravity is very likely to be always in a state of extreme tension. Looked at from this point of view, the less said about other religion the better. Let our religions be deeply hidden and embedded in the resistance of our innermost hearts fortified by unbroken seals on our lips.

Madinatul Hujjaj

Madinatul Hujjaj, Jeddah adalah tempat transit sebelum jemaah haji pulang ke tanah air. Tempat penginapan ala asrama boleh memuatkan sekitar 1000 jemaah haji pada satu-satu masa ketika musim haji. Biasanya jemaah akan tinggal di sini paling lama 2 malam.

Di kalangan jemaah haji tempat ini dipanggil juga tempat timbang beg sebelum dihantar ke kargo airport. Tapi disebabkan pergolakan politik di Mesir, kerajaan Saudi menyewakan sementara madinatul hujjaj ini kepada pelajar M'sia sebagai tempat transit untuk kembali ke tanahair. Hari ini hampir seminggu Abu Bakar & Munirah berada di sana menunggu giliran untuk pulang.

Kalau Onyang pun lahir pada tarikh ni, 2 Februari, maknanya tarikh lahirnya pada Isnin, 11 Jamadil Awal 1338, dah 94 tahun. Uwan pulak Selasa, 26 Muharram 1362, 70 tahun. Ariff lahir hari Khamis, 3 Muharram 1427.

Sarah joins the SAMBESTarian

Tarikh: 5 Januari 2004. Sarah sudah bersedia dengan menyandang beg kuning untuk memulakan alam persekolahan walau masih secara informal. Kakak akan memasuki kelas  6 tahun Tadika Islam Nurul Yakin di TDS.  Pada hujung tahunnya, kakak berjaya mendapat tempat pertama keseluruhan dan bermulalah detik-detik kegemilangan bagi kami sekeluarga. Jejak-jejak yang ditinggalkan di akademia nampaknya sudah mula disusuri, dipelopori oleh kakak.

Tarikh: 2 Januari 2011. Fast forward 7 years. Hari ini sungguh kakak akan mula tinggal berjauhan dari kami. Tak jauh sangat pun, cuma 30 minit perjalanan melalui NPE, New Pantai Expressway ke USJ 5, Subang Jaya. Tapi satu lembaran baru akan bermula kerana hari ini, Ahad, kakak akan mendaftar diri di Sekolah Agama Menengah Bestari (SAMBEST) meneruskan persekolahan dalam Tingkatan 1, kelas Al Farabi. Seperti dijangka, Sarah seorang sahaja dari SERI Al-Huda yang menyambung persekolahan ke SAM Bestari, walaupun seramai 5 orang mendapat tawaran ke sini. Sekali lagi kakak gusar, kami segera menenangkannya dengan alasan nanti dapat kawan baru... alasan umum yang diberi oleh ibu bapa lain. Ini satu milestone dalam diari akademik kakak sekaligus mengembalikan nostalgia hampir 30 tahun lampau. Sedar tak sedar kini satu persatu lipatan sejarah dan pengalaman lama dirungkai pantas oleh derupan langkah kakak.

Kids' Day at Cosmos World

                                  

Setakat ini, Cosmos World @ Berjaya Times Square masih menjadi tempat kunjungan kami di setiap musim cuti sekolah. Sejak Sarah di bangku tadika lagi, sampailah sekarang (dah nak masuk Tingkatan 1), masih lagi Cosmos World menjadi pilihan utama. Saya dah menjangka, kunjungan kami kali ini, Sarah tentu akan menaiki roller coaster, memandangkan sebelum ini, ketinggian Sarah belum cukup untuk menaikinya. 

Kesemua permainan yang lain telah dirasai berkali-kali oleh Sarah kecuali yang satu inilah. Akhirnya hajatnya tercapai, nekad beratur sambil tersenyum simpul, teruja dan nampak sedikit gementar. Hajar masih belum berani menyertai Sarah merasai thrill roller coaster, setakat 'odd express', 'spinning orbit', 'bumper car' bolehlah bagi Hajar, tapi tidak untuk roller coaster, awal-awal lagi dia dah surrender.

Hari itu memang memenatkan, Hadi macam biasa, aktiviti tidur bagi bayi seusia Hadi menjadi agenda utama walaupun keadaan sekeliling riuh rendah. Dapat juga Hadi enjoy 'merry-go-round' dan 'crazy bus' khas untuk kanak-kanak yang lebih kecil. Amirul dan Ariff paling kurang 5 kali naik 'bumper cars' dan 'beez drive.'

 

Yang ironiknya semasa melangkah kaki sebagai junior QS di Hashim dan Lim Sdn. Bhd., Berjaya Star City atau sekarang dikenali sebagai Berjaya Times Square adalah projek pertama yang saya take-off.

 

Estimated Contract Sum masa tu adalah RM950 juta menjadikan ia projek terbesar Hashim dan Lim. Sebelum resign dari HDL pada 2006, seingat saya, Anticipated Final Contract Sum plus 'perubahan kerja'  mencecah 1.2 Billion bagi projek The Star City@ Times Square. Memang, this was the biggest project handled by my entire Hashim dan Lim Sdn. Bhd office, and now, my kids are enjoying their day right here at Berjaya Times Square.

Proton Pahlawan Series - MPV Lekiu

Pahlawan series was launched at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2010 at the Putra World Trade Centre here yesterday. At Proton’s booth, the attention grabbers were its series of the Pahlawan concept and show cars inspired by the five legendary warriors of the Malacca empire – Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Lekir, Hang Lekiu and Hang Kasturi.

Unveiled for the first time, the Tuah is a large sedan concept, Jebat a high performance sedan, Lekir a sports car, Lekiu a five-door crossover and Kasturi an entry level sedan.

Meanwhile, Perodua unveiled its next generation concept vehicle called the Bezza, a compact model that comes with rear sliding doors and seats that can swivel for easy exit. It also features intelligent multimedia and mobile connectivity.

TIMELINE - World's worst stampedes

A stampede in Cambodia's capital of Phnom Penh on Monday killed at least 339 people on Monday, the last day of a water festival.

Following is a timeline of some of the worst stampedes in the last 20 years.

July 1990 - Inside al-Muaissem tunnel near Mecca in Saudi Arabia, 1,426 pilgrims are crushed to death. The accident occurs on Eid al-Adha (The Feast of Sacrifice), Islam's most important feast at the end of the annual Haj pilgrimage.

May 1994 - Also in Saudi Arabia, a stampede near Jamarat Bridge kills 270 in the area where pilgrims hurl stones at piles of rocks symbolizing the devil.

April 1998 - One hundred and nineteen Muslim pilgrims are crushed to death at the Haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

May 2001 - In Ghana, 126 people are killed in a stampede at Accra's main soccer stadium when police fire teargas at rioting fans in one of Africa's worst soccer disasters.

February 2004 - A stampede kills 251 Muslim pilgrims in Saudi Arabia near Jamarat Bridge during the ritual stoning of the devil at the annual Haj pilgrimage.

January 2005 - At least 265 Hindu pilgrims, including several women and children, are killed near a remote temple in India's Maharashtra state.

August 2005 - At least 1,005 people die in Iraq when Shi'ites stampede off a bridge over the Tigris river in Baghdad, panicked by rumors of a suicide bomber in the crowd.

January 2006 - Three hundred and sixty-two Muslim pilgrims are crushed to death at the eastern entrance of the Jamarat Bridge when pilgrims jostled to perform the stoning ritual between noon and sunset.
